We've often been told as girls that our tops are too short, the dresses indicate that we're asking for it and and we're trying to be more modern and westernized. I did some research which got me shocked. It wasn't about most men who can't wear a dhoti or most aunties who have a plunging neckline, rather it was about the Indian clothing before 500CE and here is what I wrote...

Women wearing dresses and jeans is a matter of concern today, the eyebrows rise whenever a woman is seen like that in many parts of the country but short dresses do not define a woman’s true nature and identity. The clothes can never define a woman’s honour and this is not what I say without proof but this is what Shree Ram said in Valmiki ramayan:
"Na Grahani Na Vastrani Na Prakaara Striraskriyah
NaDrisha RajSatkara Vrittam Avaranama Striyah"
This means "Neither house, nor clothes, nor compound wall, nor doors, nor any type of Royal honours cover a woman. Her character is her shield which protects her."
And I think this is all we need as proof of what our gods have to say about the dressing of women.
In ancient India, Females used to play a big role in society. Some of the bravest and greatest rulers had surnames from their mothers’ side like Gautami Putra Satkarni. The wife's name was taken first like Sita Ram Chandra. These are some of the many situations or instances which I can tell you about. Now will the men agree to follow this? Or will the aunties stop hating their own gender?
